-------------------------------------------------------------------------- Runaway Account Procedure Bulletin 1020 10/06/98 Copyright (C) 1998, Coastal Security Systems, Inc. All rights reserved. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Runaway accounts are defined as those sending a continuous flow of signals. The central station computer recognizes a runaway when 30 signals (other than employee test signals logged by the fax back or alert message system) have been received from the same account, with less than 30 minutes between each signal. When an account goes 30 minutes without a signal, it is no longer a runaway, though it can become one again by sending the required number of signals. When a runaway is detected an alarm is produced causing the central station operator to notify the dealer. The dealer should respond immediately since the runaway could busy the receiver line and prevent valid alarms from being received at the central station. If the premises are unoccupied and no call out can be reached, it is usually possible to stop the runaway by shorting the telephone line at the network interface or protector with a jumper wire. This jumper can be easily removed after access to the premises has been gained and the communicator has been fixed. After a runaway has been detected, the central station computer will automatically log all signals so the central station operators will not be required to handle them. The account will remain completely out of service until it goes thirty minutes without a signal or until an employee test signal is received and logged by the fax back or alert message system. Central station operators will notify dealers of runaway accounts using the dealer's emergency service calling list. If no list exists, any telephone number on file may be used. If the runaway uses a telephone line owned by the central station which serves more than one dealer and the dealer cannot be notified or does not agree to immediately respond, the central station may send its own technician to disable the runaway.
