Central One
Motorola I90c Procedural Walk Through
Central One’s exciting new mobile web capabilities
put access to your entire subscriber database in the palm of your hand! This document takes you step by step through the
procedures to set up your Motorola I90c Nextel cellular phone. Other makes and models will have subtle
differences but the basic steps will still apply. Entering the name of a web site is a time
consuming operation but you only need to do it once and then bookmark it. From then on you only need to pick the
bookmark from a menu.
First time setup:
Bookmarking the Site
1.
Press the menu
key. The screen will display a list of
options.
2.
Highlight “Net”
and press the “select” key.
3.
Highlight “Enter
Site” and press the “OK” key.
4.
Enter www.centralone.com/techinqy.
Hint 1: To enter letters press the digit key that
contains the letter you want repeatedly until the letter appears. Example:
To enter the letter, “c”, press the “2” key three times. Wait for the cursor to reappear on the screen
before moving to the next letter.
Hint 2: To enter the dot and the slash, press the
“alpha” soft key until it changes to “SYM” or “SYM 1”. The screen will display a list of symbols and
the digit you press to use each symbol.
You may need to press the “more” soft key to reveal the symbol you
need. When finished, press the “SYM”
soft key repeatedly until “alpha” appears.
Hint 3: If you wish to store your login sequence so
that you do not need to enter it manually each time you access the sight add “?login=” and your
login sequence to the URL (web site address). For example if you are dealer 100, employee
8, pin number 1234 you would enter the full bookmark:
www.centralone.com/techinqy?login=100*8*1234
5.
Press the “OK”
soft key when you are finished and the “Login: “ prompt
should appear (“Account” prompt if you stored your login in the bookmark). Do not log in or enter an account number at
this time.
6.
Press and hold
the “menu” key until a menu appears.
7.
Highlight the
“mark site” option and press the “OK” soft key.
8.
You may accept
the proposed name for the site or change it to whatever name you prefer and
press the “save” soft key. The screen
should say, “Inquiry was added to bookmarks.”
Using the Inquiry Web Site
1.
Press the menu
key. The screen will display a list of
options.
2.
Highlight “Net”
and press the “select” key.
3.
Highlight “Bookmarks”
and press the select key or simply press the option number that appears before
the “Bookmarks” option.
4.
Highlight
“Inquiry” and press the select key or simply press the option number that
appears before the “Inquiry” option.
5.
If you did not
save your login as part of the bookmark log in with your dealer number,
employee number and pin and press the “OK” soft key.
Hint: You may log in the same way you log in to fax
back with dealer number, star, employee number, star, pin number, pound
sign. But this is difficult on the
Motorola phone because you must keep switching to the symbols screen to produce
the stars (the star key does not produce a star but is rather the web browser’s
back command). The simplest way to log
in is to enter a four digit dealer number, two digit employee number and four
digit pin.
Example: dealer number 123, employee 8, pin 6922 would
be “0123086922”.
6.
The screen will
now prompt, “Account number or name:”.
If you do not know the account number enter some of the subscriber’s
name.
Hint 1: For residential accounts and Doctor’s offices
enter the last name. For commercial
accounts enter the name as is except do not enter “The “ if the account name
starts with “The “.
Hint 2: You should enter enough letters of the name
to narrow your search down to a short list of subscribers. The web site will only display twenty
matching accounts.
Hint 3: Do not enter any punctuation such as commas
or periods.
7.
Press the
“submit” soft key and the screen will display a list of subscribers whose names
match your input. The list will show each
subscriber’s account number. A prompt
will appear at the bottom of the page (you may need to scroll down) for the
account number. Enter the account number
(or a new name to search) and press the “submit” soft key.
8.
Once you have
entered an account number the screen will display the subscriber’s name, main
and alternate phone numbers, last signal date and time, panel type, account
attributes such as UL or NFPA, address and directions from the central station
database. Use the up and down arrows to
scroll through this information. Press
the “dial” soft key to call the subscriber using the main phone number.
Using the Alarm History Web Site:
1.
Follow the
instructions above to create a bookmark for www.centralone.com/techhist.
2.
Access the site
using the bookmark and log in as described for the inquiry site, above.
3.
A prompt will
appear for the account number. If you
don’t know the account number you will need to use the inquiry site first to
look it up. Enter the account number and
press the “submit” soft key. The screen
will display the recent alarm history (up to twenty signals or ten days,
whichever is less).
Troubleshooting FAQ:
My phone has a menu
option called “web sites” but none that says “enter site”. What is wrong?
You have not set up your Nextel account
with full internet access. Partial
access (about $5 per month) gives you
selected “web sites” such as news, weather and sports. You need full access (about $10 per month) to
enter any web site address on the net.
Why
do I get “access restricted” when using the Inquiry web site?
You must have “full menu
access” in the central station in order to use the Inquiry site. All technicians and employees with pin
numbers have access to the History site.
Why
do I get “session expired” or “system error” when using these sites?
Sometimes when you select
“Net” from the main menu of the phone you are returned to the place where you
left off earlier. Your session with the
Central One server timed out. Press the
red “disconnect call” key a few times to return to the phone’s home screen and
start new from there.
After
I display an account is there an easy way to enter a new account number rather
than starting from scratch?
The star (*) key on your
phone is the net browser’s “back” key.
Press the star key to return to the “account number or name” prompt and
enter a new account number. To erase the
number that is there press the down arrow and then hold the left arrow
key. If too much time has passed your
session may time out and you will need to reload our site from the bookmark
menu.
What
if I need more complete information than these sites make available?
These mobile device sites
were designed to provide the information you need the most without clogging up the
screen with too much information that you are less likely to need. If you find that you consistently need
certain fields that we have omitted then contact us. We want to provide the most efficient and
useful functionality available in the industry.
When
I am testing fire alarms and other systems is there a way for the signals to
display on my screen as they are received?
All you need to do after each
signal is sent is press the “submit” soft key from the history display and any
new signals will be placed on the top of the list on your screen. At this time we do not have the ability to
push an unsolicited message (signal) out to your phone (except via email which
can be too slow).
I
can bring up a brand new account by the number.
Why can’t I bring it up by the name?
The indexing of accounts by
account number is real time and always brings you current data. The web server’s name index is updated daily
just after midnight. New accounts and accounts
with name changes cannot be found by name until the day after the change.
Is
it safe to store my confidential login sequence in my cell phone?
It depends upon how well you
look after your phone. If you make it a
practice to keep your phone with you at all times and not to lend it or leave
it unattended then it is probably an acceptable risk. If you lose your phone you can cancel your
pin number using FaxBack, Citrix or by
calling the central station supervisor or data entry department. Storing your login offers a great convenience
in that you are spared the entry of a bunch of digits every time you want to
look up a subscriber or an alarm history.
The decision is yours.
